Join Birp and sell your end-of-day surplus food to local customers at a discount — reducing waste, recovering costs, and doing good in your community. It's free to join.
Food you'd otherwise throw away becomes income. Every bag sold is money back from stock that would have cost you to discard.
Stop throwing away perfectly good food at the end of every day. Your surplus goes to someone who wants it instead of a landfill.
Birp users discover your store through the app. Many become regular customers after their first surprise bag experience.
We handle the platform, the payments, and the customer communications. You just prepare the bag and confirm collections.
Being a Birp partner signals to your community that you care about sustainability and food security — not just the bottom line.
Joining Birp is completely free. There are no setup fees, no monthly fees, and no obligation. You list when you have surplus — that's it.
From application to your first bag sold — here's what to expect.
Get in touch via our contact form or email. Tell us about your store and the type of surplus you typically have.
We'll be in touch within a few days. We'll agree on your bag type, pricing, and collection window, then set up your store profile.
Before going live, we'll run a test to make sure the flow works smoothly — listing, reservation, and collection.
Your store appears on Birp. Customers start finding and reserving your bags. You prepare the bags, confirm pickups, and we handle the rest.
A surprise bag is a selection of your end-of-day surplus food, packaged and listed at a discounted price. Customers know the general type of food they're getting, but not the exact contents — that's part of the experience.
End-of-day bread, rolls & pastries. Contents vary — always delicious.
Birp is built on trust — between stores, customers, and our community. Here's what being a good partner means.
All food listed on Birp must comply with South African food safety regulations. Stores are responsible for the preparation, storage, and packaging of food they supply. Birp does not handle food directly.
You must provide honest allergen information for your bag type. Customers rely on this to make safe choices. If contents change significantly, update the listing.
Customers plan their day around your pickup time. Stick to the window you set, or notify us in advance if you need to change it. Consistency builds customer trust.
A surprise bag should represent genuine value — the contents should be worth meaningfully more than the Birp price. Don't pad bags with items you'd discard anyway.
Once you're live, you'll have access to your Birp partner dashboard — a simple interface to manage your listings, track orders, and monitor your impact.
